BACHELOR OF ARTS IN THEOLOGY

MAJOR FIELD OF STUDY

PASTORAL STUDIES

One of the departments that help PMI to fulfill its mission of developing competent, mission oriented Christian leaders is the Pastoral Studies Department. It seeks to clarify and develop the students calling in the ministry. It provides the training and exposures under the guidance, tutelage and mentorship of pastor-teachers who are consistently and continually involved in the pastoral ministry.

The Pastoral Studies Department envisions developing pastors whose desire is to emulate the great Shepherd, the Lord Jesus Christ. Because they believe that the life, growth and expansion of the church will only be realized through the leadership of pastors who know what it takes to be a pastor whose main objective in life is the glory and honor of God and the growth and expansion of His kingdom.

CHRISTIAN EDUCATION

The department seeks to develop Christian Education specialists who are well – equipped in administering the educational ministry of the church, in teaching different age groups and in curriculum making. To achieve this goal, the department provides opportunities for the development of students’ leadership potentialities and skills in and of campus. The department works hand in hand with the F.E. department in implementing and monitoring the required training for each year level such as the following:
   First Year: Children’s Ministry
   Second Year: Youth Ministry
   Third Year: Adult Ministry
Fourth Year: Pre school children’s Ministry and Preparation of one-year
                                 Curriculum Plan.
Fifth Year: Field Practicum, Administrative Work and Curriculum Making.

INTER-CULTURAL STUDIES

The goal of the Department of Inter-Cultural Studies of PMI is to educate the church leadership planting churches cross-culturally with an indigenous and naturally reproducing Gospel within every people of Asia. For this purpose the teaching and learning instruction of ICS are already restructured. Moreover, it is essential for a church planting movement to be established with the help of the local church and nurtured to maturity.

In Revelation 5:9 and 7:9 we see all of redeemed humanity represented by every tribe, tongue, people and nations worship Christ because of the sacrifice He made to save us. They are not a uniform mass of humanity but a diverse group of people that God has ordained to offer up the praise and worship that Christ deserves.

Department of ICS of PMI is entering into a new era equipping the church leadership utilizing variety of educational methods with formal indoor and outdoor mission exposures to reach the people of Asia to develop their own unique indigenous cultural structures and worship which God had ordained from eternity to be offered up to Christ. This is indeed a task worthy of greatest effort of department of ICS of PMI as we are endeavoring to produce more cross-cultural missionaries in accomplishing the task.

CHURCH MUSIC

In line with the school’s vision which is to train competent, mission-oriented Christian leaders in Asia’s rural areas, the PMI Music Department’s objective is to train full time music director or administrator who in turn will plan and execute the church music program, assisting the four major areas: worship, education, evangelism and fellowship.

The PMI Music Department trains music leaders with theological and biblical foundations. The musicians are able to teach, counsel and lead Bible Study in the musical context. We also encourage students to pioneer music ministry even in small churches with no music program nor instrument at all. Our students are interdenominational and have musical background prior to their study at PMI. We also train students with no prior formal music training. The training is neither an easy task nor an overnight work. The training received together with different exposures during weekend is a big help to realize the significance of church worship. For “a worshipping church is a growing church. A growing church is a worshipping church.” Therefore, there is a definite need for music ministry in the church.

We believe that one of our roles as church musicians is building and edifying people in their relationship with God through music and eventually lead those people to reach out for others.

Short Term Course

This is a less formal, more flexible approach to pastoral and church leadership development which extends relevant, practical learning opportunities to mature, faithful men and women who are active in local churches and helping the Body of Christ and called of God and in need of Bible and Theological training.

In other words, STC is bringing the Bible School to the students as to where they are presently located: in the beginning, we could have it along the vicinity of PMI, then later the inner cities, metropolitan centers, country side, and wherever the need is – as Jesus Christ did.

STC extends to the student to meet his need in the following ways: geographically, culturally, academically, pedagogically, economically and theologically.
